The Lu Xun Memorial in Shaoxing exhibits a pair of ordinary tweezers, which chronicles a rather extraordinary story:
1929年冬天的一个黄昏，一位人力车夫光者脚，急急忙忙地奔走在回家的路上。
At sunset on a winter day in 1929, barefoot as he was, a ricksha puller was rushing to get home.
一不小心，脚踩在破玻璃瓶上，划了几道很深的伤口，鲜血直流。激烈的疼痛，使车夫难以忍受。
In a moment of carelessness, he stepped onto a broken glass bottle, cutting himself a few deep wounds. Blood streamed from his wounds. The intensive pain was hard to bear for the ricksha puller.
Lu Xun who was just having a meal saw this, instantly put down his bowl, took out a pair of tweezers and some medicine and went over to the ricksha puller. Carefully, Lu Xun used the tweezers to pull out the broken glass, piece by piece, cleaned the wound with disinfectant, applied medicine and bandaged the wounds.
Lu Xun gave the left-over medicine and bandage to the ricksha puller and handed him 2 yuan, urging him to see a doctor for treatment on the next day. The ricksha puller was moved to speechlessness, and could not hold back his tears.
This ordinary pair of tweezers thus is resplendent with the glory of Lu Xun’s “like a willing ox I serve the children”.
