（43）一九三八年九月，日寇集中两万兵力，向我军区腹部五台山区发动疯狂进攻。边区军民在伟大领袖毛主席领导下，开展英勇的反“扫荡”斗争。军区决定，诱敌深入，切断敌人交通线，然后加以消灭。

(43) In September 1938, the Japanese invaders amassed a force of 20,000 troops and launched a massive assault on the Wutai Mountain region in the heart of our military district. Under the leadership of our great leader, Chairman Mao, the soldiers and civilians of the border region waged a heroic struggle against the enemy’s “mop-up” campaign. The military district command decided to lure the enemy deep into our territory, sever their supply lines, and then annihilate them completely.
